December 16 Dive Project Report

The weather finally started cooperating today, so we were able to make another trip to the "Sea Emperor" on Parrot Island's "Fathoms O' Fun". Seas were a constant 4ft with the occasional 5 or 6 ft roller. We arrived at the "Sea Emperor" to find another boat tied off and ended up doing a "hot drop" where the boat doesn't actually tie off to the descent line, but drops us off and lets the current carry us to the line. After a quick trip down the line we hit the deck (hull?) of the "Emperor" and the fun begins. Stingrays (2) were out playing, as was one of the resident goliath groupers. Visibility wasn't too good, probably 20ft, but as long as I was close to what I was shooting, things looked pretty clear. Spent some time looking for the resident moray "Baby" with no luck, but DID find a nurse shark in one of Baby's hiding spots!

After the "Emperor" it was off to "Turtle Ledge" for a drift dive. Visibility was a little better, probably 30ft, but not much going on. Plenty of fish - the usual characters - and one big green moray, but little else.

All totaled, shot about a half hour's worth of video which I now have to edit into a DVD soon to be for sale on the website. Keep an eye out for it!
